Revolution Meta Painting

July 24, 2016

While nonviolently freedom fighting in Philly, one of the many amazing things we encountered is this “Meta Painting;  a collaboration of ideas and shared expression, within boundaries.”

ClaraJane and Gavin painting for the Revolution

As we know the the Sanders Campaign has inspired SO much art across the country (and globally no doubt).  In this case, artist Scott Frias (sp?) from Baltimore is crowd sourcing the painting of this “Revolution/Resolution” sign.  Though his methods are extremely precise and not intended for kids, *my* kids demonstrated enough enthusiasm and restraint that he generously allowed them to paint in one spot that had no constrictions.  (I also got to paint a dove.)

Here is my favorite journalist from The Young Turks, Jimmy Dore, covering the rallies around Philly on the first day of the convention, including an interview about this Meta-Painting, which appears at minute 1:54.  (Warning: There is a bagpipe involved, sorry.)

Let’s Go Philly

Saturday, July 23rd 2016

With our clothes, groceries and ideals packed, it’s Go Time!

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 1.21.25 AM

But alas I’m bringing ankle-biters on this revolutionary mission, so we go when we go.

We believe Bernie Sanders represents the best interests of the people, and therefore should be the Democratic nominee for President of the United States.  Unfortunately the corporate Clinton machine, the DNC, the media and more have been colluding to foist Ms. Hillary upon us instead.  We are heading to the Philadelphia to exercise our First Amendment rights and protest outside the Democratic National Convention to stand up for a *Democratic* election in what is supposed to be a Democracy.   Let’s GO!

It’s a race against time to get to our motel outside Philly before the POOL closes (priority #1 when traveling with kids).

Whew!

Now for the joy of settling these little Revolutionaries into our new temporary setting.

The Face that Broke My Internet

Wednesday, June 29th 2016

During our first day camping Lovell’s Island, Boy records his face on my phone.  Between smitten and curious, I try uploading the short video directly to blog  (after all there is a button for that).   Before long the phone becomes HOT and unresponsive.  It won’t even turn OFF.  Of desperation I take out the battery and, when I try to restart it; DEATH.  Well, “black screen,” which on a phone that is DEATH.

Naught to do but put it away for remainder of camping trip and later try in vain to get it fixed back in civilization.  No such luck.  One week and $250 shorter I have a new phone, and this video:

2016-06-29 FACE FACE [31 seconds]:

No regrets really.  I still don’t know why the phone broke.  It’s just one of those things.  THAT’S LIFE, and there’s only one life to live.

And this face is just THAT CUTE.

Here is an old NOAA chart of the area.  (Can’t really read all of it, but it looks cool.)

Boston NOAA Chart

Here is a collection of Google photos.  Gavin is excited to see all the Army bunker stuff.

Hey Mom!  Check it out:  “Visitor Cautions: The gun batteries contain steep drops, open holes in parapets rusty rebar, railings and pipes, and crumbling concrete surfaces.

BUT FIRST, a little chichi.  Time to load up the bikes and ride over to the Ferry in Boston Town.  (On a side note, it is overcast, hot, sticky, a small storm system is on it’s way, we have never gone camping without the CAR full of stuff, and I have had so many gigs lately that I am EXHAUSTED.  But never mind, onward!)

ClaraJane’s First Ballet Day

Wednesday, June 22nd 2016

2016-06-22 15.11.15-1

Immediately after the last day of school, ClaraJane and I steal across town to her FIRST BALLET CLASS EVER!  Her excitement is driving the train, and the pleasure is so palpable I tumble strait into a stereotype and suddenly find myself being a Dance Mom!  It’s particularly delicious considering my best friend ever growing up was/is a dancer whom I love and now the whole culture of ballet is flooding back to me.  Regardes!

Commencement Commitments – These are the Dyes

Tuesday,  June 21st 2016

Of all the things happening now somehow I dial into this one;

2016-06-21 16.18.50

Free ballet tights before and after DIY home hack dye job

Solstice is here, the kids and Paul have ONE MORE DAY of school tomorrow, I’m endowed with gigs aplenty.  After a 4-show gig this morning I scored some white tights for the start of ClaraJane’s ballet classes. Problem is they must be PINK.  To preserve the customary thrift of time I don’t have & money I’d rather keep, I  brainstorm a way to dye them mydamnself.   Some rubbing alcohol, water, soap and the ink of one high liter… voila!  I don’t know how they’ll look (or fit), if they will stain her legs or if they will hold up in the wash, but those are not problems I need to solve RIGHT NOW.

Now that I got the kids to the movie with grandma, discovered secret surprise date with DHubsand, enabled him to both get Gavin to Tae Kwon Do for belt re-testing AND comb out ClaraJane’s hair and made it through my Kids Night gig I need to frigging sleep.

Tomorrow I hope to finish thank yous to the kids’ teachers and bus driver,  deliver them, say goodbyes, get Gavin his gear for his first baseball tryouts, and get ClaraJane to her first ballet class (starting ONE HOUR after the end of school) IN PROPER ATTIRE:

* Girls’ Attire for Ballet Classes

  • Solid color leotard
  • Light pink tights
  • Pink leather or canvas ballet slippers
  • Skirts and Tutus are optional.
  • Hair should be pulled back neatly and smoothly in a bun or ponytail.
  • No jewelry is permitted except stud earrings.

It’s so prim and precise that it’s exciting somehow, not least because our little GIRL is so excited.  Only the first and last class of the 6-week session is open to parental viewing.  And speaking of ATTIRE, I will be doing that in costume myself before immediately disappearing off to work the Red Sox game at Fenway.  Then thank heavens Daddy can pick up the pieces with the kids and the car and everything.  I will have to find out later whether her legs end up highlighted neon pink.

That is how I aspire to finish the school year and start the summer, tomorrow.

DHubsand joked today about making babies and I said, “Nnooooooooo… that’s okay.  I want WHAT I HAVE.”

I do.

And also sleep.
