Kiss Me Your Fool

Saturday, May 21st 2016

After a full couple days of face painting, I myself was charitably painted by a friend’s daughter at the end of our school’s Family Fun Day.

Although my husband declined my request for a kiss, he did ask that I post my face on the blog like that.  Now the rest of the world can see what he goes through,  poor guy!  And in return he’s making another divine meal for us; holding down his end of the CircusKitchen arrangement and blessing us with his saintly patience, diligence and talent.

Lucky me (honk honk squeak ah-OOO-gah)!

UkeOke: I Wanna Be Like You

#Ukulele chords (I like) and lyrics to this iconic song from Disney’s The Jungle Book.

   I Wanna Be Like You

Dm A7       Now I’m the king of the swingers, oh, the jungle VIP

A7  Dm      I’ve reached the top and had to stop and that’s what botherin’ me

Dm A7       I wanna be a man, mancub and stroll right into town

A7  Dm      And be just like the other men I’m tired of monkeyin’ around

CHORUS:   [C7 – F  D7  G7  C7  F  C7  F  D7  G7  C7  F – Am]

C7 F D7       Oh, oobee doo, I wanna be like you

G7                 I wanna walk like you

C7 F               Talk like you, too

C7 F               You’ll see it’s true

D7                    An ape like me

G7 C7 F          Can learn to be human too

A7

VERSE 2:

Dm A7          Now don’t try to kid me, mancub, I made a deal with you

A7 Dm           What I desire is man’s red fire to make my dream come true

Dm A7          Give me the secret, mancub, clue me what to do

A7  Dm             Give me the power of man’s red flower, so I can be like you

CHORUS:   [C7 – F  D7  G7  C7  F  C7  F  D7  G7  C7  F – Am]

VERSE 3:

Dm  A7  I like your mannerisms,  we’ll be a set of twins

A7 Dm  No one will know where man-cub ends  and orangutan begins

Dm  A7  And when I eat bananas, I won’t peel them with my feet

A7  Dm   Cause I’ll become a man-cub  and learn some etti – keet.

CHORUS:   [C7 – F  D7  G7  C7  F  C7  F  D7  G7  C7  F – Am]

World’s Worst Breakfast

Thursday May 12th 2016

ahhh!

“Sorry guys,” I tell the kids, “We’re gonna be too late for School Breakfast with Daddy today.  Guess we’ll have Car Breakfast with Mamma.”

“UUUUUUUUGGGH,” groans my Night Owl, Dragging-in-the-Morning Boy, “Does Car Breakfast have cereal?”

Me:  [Laughing]  What?!

Him: [More emphatically]  Does Car Breakfast have cereal?

Me:  [Thinking of how we recently invested $200 in having the detail-cleaned.  Um, ya-]  No.

Him:  [Groaning again.]  UUUUUUUUUUUGGGH!

*      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *      *

Arriving at school some 20 minutes later, “Well I guess there are worse breakfasts in the world!” I posit optimistically.

“NO,” says ClaraJane bluntly.

Gavin and I giggle.  (As apparently some blood sugar has made it to his head.)

“Really?!” I ask, “There’s nothing worse than apples, crackers, candy and fruit snack?”

NO!” she insists, surely contrasting with Daddy’s loving School Breakfasts in mind.

“Yeah what about Worm Salad?”  I ask.

“Oh yeah!  Yeah,” she concedes, as if knowingly.

“With diarrhea!!”  Gavin adds cheerfully.

Descending into giggles, we create the menu for the Worst Breakfast in the World.

And lucky you here it is for your edification:

Worst Breakfast in the World

Worm Salad

with Diarrhea Dressing,

Hard Nodules of Poop for croutons

and “dirt on the side.”

The weirdest thing about this dish is that part of me is proud of my son for coming up with two different presentations of the same ingredient.

2017-02-19:

Gavin adds:  And urine for a drink!

ClaraJane:  No PEE for a drink!

Me:  OK.

And as they say before lunch in Tobin Montessori Children’s House:

Bon appétit.  Now you may Eat!

Real Mature Morning with ClaraJane

Tuesday, May 3rd 2016

This morning when ClaraJane wakes up next to me I *happen* to be looking at something stupidly funny on my Facebook feed.  I show it to her saying, “We totally have to do this.”

“Yeah,” she agrees giggling, “With Peter Parker!”

Turns out, Peter Parker is right there in his usual spot on top of me, and because my sewing table is next to my bed I literally have all the supplies needed within arm’s reach without getting up.   So that it how we start the day and which I humbly share with you now:

Note:  It was meant to look like an elephant, but maybe came out more like a wooly mammoth.

School Garden Kids

School Garden

Since as a mother it’s my #1 aim to cultivate the legacy of a *relationship* between my son and daughter, I collect evidence they get along like nuggets of gold.

Gavin and ClaraJane check on some herbs

So I enjoyed spying on them oh-so-subtly this particular April afternoon when they decided to check in on the City Sprouts Garden at school before heading home.

Gavin tasting the Chives

In fact, Mommy was so successful at going unnoticed that they called me right over to taste the chives too.  And let me tell you there are few things so delicious as fresh young things in the garden.

And the chives weren’t bad either.

Gavin’s Grandma Z Dance

Monday, May 2nd 2016

Having turned 8, Gavin’s birthday gift from Grandma Z & Grandpa Jack in Florida is the promise of a *trip* to go VISIT them this summer… by himSELF!

He took it pretty hard.  Look:

2016-05-02 Gavin’s Going Solo [34 seconds]:

I flew as an unaccompanied minor a zillion times as a child… in the 70’s.  Looks like it’s my turn to see how it feels to be a mom on the sending or receiving end of things.  Either way, happy for our Boy.  Once we schedule it that is…

“Details to follow” indeed!

Portland Mini-Vacay Getaway

April 20-22nd 2016

After my gig north of Boston on Wednesday, I met my family at the local train station as they had brilliantly commuted there so as to begin our “Vacay” sooner than later.

2016-04-20 14.54.57

Bam.  In less than two hours, we’re there.

After operating the luggage trolley for us, Gavin makes his bed (with perfectly arranged lovies atop homemade sleep sac & travel pillow) before getting down to the business of finishing the seventh and final Harry Potter book.

Other highlights include:

  • Getting beaten in Back-Gavin
  • Piece of the Berlin Wall – a reminder of tyranny
  • Bacon Cheddar donut for my Manmeat
  • Chance encounter with Aunt Liz’s champion dog’s puppy
  • Offerings and atmosphere at Central Provisions
  • Chilling (with bunny or otherwise)
  • Old Orchard Beach

Another Way to Say It

Friday,  April 22nd 2016

candy_factory

“DICKinson’s”

At Rise: The Oberhauser Four are pulling into the seaside town of Old Orchard Beach, ME.  The literate-minded soon-to-be 8 year-old Boy is snickering at the name of an ice cream n’ candy store,  “Dickenson’s.”

Gavin:  “‘DICK-n’-sons… get it?  Because *Dick*?…” he points out, scandalously.

The 4 year-old girl in the back seat in her perfectly innocent baby voice pipes up;

ClaraJane:  “Because ‘DICK’ is just another way to say ‘PENIS!'”

And apparently there is nothing like the feeling of having your 4 y/o baby in her baby voice spontaneously define the true meaning of “dick.”

Yes they are that innocent,  and we are that mature.

The End.
