How to Get Out of Danger

Gavin:  Baby Sister can’t stay by herself, right?

Me:  No. You either!

G:  Right. Because we’re KIDS!  And you can’t live without us *either.*

M:  That’s right.  I couldn’t.

G:  Because then we would get in DANGER.  And I would shout, “HEEEEEEEEELP!”  And then the Superheroes would come, and go to the dollar store to find you, and then they would bring you to where WE are!

Just in time, HEEEELP arrives!

They know JUST where to go…

Lady you forgot your KIDS!

My 4 y/o Big Boy

“UH!  Mamma!  I hurt my BUM!”  my boy calls from his bath. “I hurt the cheek of my bum!”

“Which cheek?” I ask.

“THIS one!”  Now the re-enactment. “I hurt *this* cheek of my bum, when I sat down on the edge of *this.*”  He shows me the culprit; one of his bath toys buckets.

Doing my best to hide amusement, I say, “OK. Do you want me to kiss it?”  (That is usually where the whole Presentation of BooBoo performances end up.)

“Yeah,” he says.

“OK. I”ll kiss the clean wet left bum cheek of my four year old on his birthday.”

There was some awkward negotiation as to positioning, since I wasn’t in fact willing to submerge my face in the bath to kiss it while still in sitting position.  Did I mention his cousin as the innocent bystander in this scene?  He had been hanging out waiting for Gavin to come out and play, but at this display he gave up in disgust.

Then my boy exclaims, “It was so fast it went away… strait ahead!  It went away so fast it was… right now!”

*sigh*  BooBoo all better now.  The joy of being infused with the power of such Maternal Magic is so priceless that, yes,  I will kiss his BooBoos however long he wants me to.  (I’m picturing myself driving out to visit him at college…)  Even on a bum cheek.  (Although admittedly handy it was so clean at the time this time.)

******************************************

Eventually I would like to also blog about all what ACTUALLY went down on this day,  my son’s 4th Birthday.  But for now… I content myself with this little gem.  What it’s all about (vs. what it takes to get it).

Old Car

My Red 1997 “GRBABY” Toyota RAV4 is loudly grinding it’s way up the long, steep Route 2 incline as we head West out of Cambridge to visit cousins.

CAR:  BBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBR…

BOY:  Mom, you need to go faster! All the other cars are passing us!

ME:  Sorry Boy. This is as fast as we can go in this old car. You know, when I was a kid my mom had an old car too. Then one day she got a NEW car.  Who knows, maybe the same thing will happen to YOU one day!

CAR:  BBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBRBBR…

BOY:  WHAT DID YOU SAY?!?

Splat

Dearest Auntie Jane Ann:

As putting something in the mail is simply not realistic for us at the moment, please accept this blog-note as our “Thank You” for the thoughtful cards and gifts you sent us for Easter.  So sweet!  At mom’s suggestion I went to make a video for this purpose, but as is the way with kids, it turned into something else.  And at the risk of horrifying you, here is that something else, for all to enjoy.

Love you!  And thanks again…

Fish on Friday

We know some folks feed their babies “baby food,” but… ours tend to eat, um… food.

Here are DaddyLove Paul and his BabyGirl ClaraJane doing some of what they each do best (feed and eat, respectively).  (o:

Saturday Stud’s Duds

This morning, I finally ask my running-around-naked-all-morning boy to please go get some clothes on.   I am kind of surprised when he agrees.

After like 20 minutes he comes back “dressed.”

Nice outfit, right?  The sunglasses *totally* complete the ensemble.  And the “Mixer” truck socks.  If you look closely at his reflection in the background you can make out “Lightening McQueen” on his tush.  He obviously put a lot of consideration into his fashion choices today.  Now he’s all set.  He’s got his tiny skateboard and he’s ready to ride.
