How I love Our Fair City (and my kids). Just a casual stop to check out a Cambridge Science Festival event yielded countless wonders.
First up, SNAP CIRCUITS. In other words, someone has come up with an electrical circuit board made up of parts that can be snapped together, so kids can tinker with electrical wiring without having to, say, solder and weld wires together with a soldering gun. (Not that I would want to deprive them of that pleasure, just maybe not yet.) This particular set comes with an actual real life engineer to whom you can direct your questions.
(Holy Moly: 100 electrical experiments for $30. I think somebody has a BIRTHDAY coming up. Also Mother’s Day… Father’s Day. Ho!)
Then, after passing on the opportunity at the Entomological Nutrition Booth to sample cookies made with ground LOCUST flour, Gavin found himself sparring a member of the Harvard Photonics Club in a heated game of Laser Chess:
Say, whats this TUBE over here, graciously adorned with SPARKLY GEMS? Hm, nothing more than THREE MIRRORS inside. What happens when ClaraJane looks in there?
Just three mirrors is all it takes to make 100 of my favorite things:
My kids are so seriously happy now, in order to explore more exhibits they take cooperating with Mom’s “Stick Together” Edict to a new level:
I try not to swoon as I follow their lead to what’s next:
Surprise, a video game. But this one teaches MATH. It’s called “The Counting Kingdom,” and the programmer who created it is RIGHT HERE:
We each loved it. I am NO fan of video games. But given that my son has a gene addicted to them, something like this is just what the Mom Doctor needs to order.
Then a display of aeronautics. With just a big fan and some large straws, these guys created a column of air in which you could float lightweight things like balloons and propellors made from Dixie Cups. I got a clue as to how the objects STAY in the column and don’t fly out (the outside of the column becomes low pressure compared to inside, but I still don’t know why that causes the objects to stay in). [#BernoulliPrincipal]
ClaraJane particularly liked this exhibit on account of the scientist doing one of her favorite activities:
A quick stop by a model demonstrating the effects of Gravity on Time and Space:
And we’re back outside, in the fray of things launching explosively into the sky. Suddenly marshmallows are falling out of the sky and thumping on the ground all around. It felt like I was in a Pixar movie. Here’s our own Inventor Mentor friend we know from around school:
You know, the old Soda and Mento Rocket trick. He also launching stuffed animals into the sky, and Gavin got to keep this one:
Then it’s BUBBLE Time:
Now we’ve got our Bubble Boots and Beard on and our experience is complete. Time to go. What a day!

On this day we got to celebrate Grandpa Pops. First the menu:
Food:
Cake:
And a Set Stage:
At last the Birthday Boy Arrives:
And gets just what he always wanted:
And:
The kids also got some of what they want. Such as video time time together:
Ring Pop candy:
And a little thing ClaraJane discovered:
Frosted Ring Pops:
Another beautiful meal by Paul. Then:
Happy Birthday Grandpa Pops! [1min, 10secs]:
Thanks for letting us celebrate you Pops!

[“Why My Son Needs Karate” [circa 2011] and “Crimson Kicks” [2014]; just two of my, er… as of yet *unpublished* posts.]
In any case, our current journey with Gavin brought us here:
Check in and circle up. Some fun exercise circuits. Stretch and count. Practice some moves. The teacher is freaking fantastic.
Then a like Story Time with a lesson. Eg; what to do when someone is mean to you? Beautiful answer. (Hands Down Power. Walk Away Power. Build the Fence Power if necessary.)
Earn a fun game. Eg; Hot Potato, aka; don’t get hit by either of the two giant rubber balls!
Then gather up for a kunye bow to finish.
Gavin liked it. I LOVE it.
We’ll see.

I say; Tax Day signals the beginning of Sunscreen Season. After this summer We are officially on the Summer side between equinoxes. Two months to Summer Solstice, where sun exposure is at its peak. Check this out:
How the Sun Sees You [3mins,06secs]:
Wednesday, April 15th 2015 – TAX DAY
After getting a tooth fixed and taxes filed, I got to go on a date with my daughter.
It’s called “Berry Line,” but we waive that point. (We look past it.) Moreover, that doesn’t rhyme with “Fairyland.”
Then after:
Two things:
1) Apparently “We’re Free” doesn’t only pertain to being off leash in nature. It can apparently be true on a city sidewalk as well. How delightful and what a relief.
2) We are all getting present to how LONG ClaraJane’s legs are. In this photo she looks like an elegant young lady athlete to me, not a *THREE* year old.
And alas it was this exact night while cuddling that I realized her legs are too long to rest her feet on my thighs anymore. She either has to bend her knees a LOT, or let her feet dangle down over. Pressing her feet against me has been something she’s done since before birth.
Baby’s growing up.

(Gavin = 1st grade, ClaraJane = 3 y/o)
AT RISE: Mom is driving kids to school, responding to back seat kerfuffle.
Mom: ClaraJane, leave your brother alone. Unfortunately he’s in a stinky mood… and that’s FINE.
ClaraJane: But his heart is good. Because my heart’s dream is making his heart be nice!
And… SCENE.

For myself and dear erstwhile readers who may have gotten ensnared in the madness of Crazy Bunny Lady Diaries last year, I present some closure.
Here’s what I couldn’t bring myself to write at the time; Wiggles didn’t make it.
While this is no longer news, my being able to write it IS. We lovingly wrapped up his expired adorably body and, um, *preserved* them in the freezer of my generous sister-in-law (whose heart knows no bounds when it comes to animals). And now alas with the thaw of Spring, we seized the very first opportunity to finally lay them to rest, in the woods of Plymouth.
The Bridge:
We dig a hole then go get Daddy:
Wiggs is gone, but here is is his sweet body (the kids insisted on one last viewing):
The Funeral:

Another moment of solemn reflection, and then;
She said again;
And… SCENE.

I’d forgotten how wonderful it is to visit my kids’ Auntie’s place in Plymouth!
No wonder, after the winter we’ve had. Time to burn it off!
A little yard work:
Little joy compares to that of a boy with a power tool:
There’s even Yard Work for ClaraJane:
Meanwhile inside the house you can tell the cleaners have been there and the kids haven’t:
But that is about to change:
And:
The dogs have other ideas further still, like Lucy the Immaculate Show Dog and her natural patina:
Wow. Forgotten how wonderful it is to visit my kids’ Auntie’s place in Plymouth! No wonder, after the winter we’ve had.
Unfortunately Chico has been a bit depressed lately:
But luckily if you sort of glance in his direction, he perks right up:
And he’ll lope on over to show you his toy:
Or see if you have any thing to eat for example:
And to this country girl living in the city and visiting the country, even a pile of sticks is beautiful enough to commune with:
Loving it!

The minute we arrive at her Auntie’s place in Plymouth, my daughter insists I hit the hammock with her. What an awesome girl!
But we know this. To be precise, my view was more this:
Funny how quickly car ride stress is turned around by a brief stop at the local brewery. Not to mention completely dissolved the moment your butt hits the hammock.
On the pond you can see the last vestige of ice from this year’s excessive winter. I don’t know what’s more thrilling: that view; this view;
the cold hoppy bite of a good brew; the feel of fresh air and sunshine after all these confined months; the curl of my daughter’s braid; the weight of Her Squishiness on my lap (formerly “yap”); her running commentary, the intrusion of this hilarious HUGE DOG HEAD;
the song-sound of these wood creatures [Plymouth Wood Creatures Song 31 secs]:
or the last of that ice literally melt away before our eyes;
A deep, calm, tranquil REJOICE of Spring.
Can I get an Alleluia!
