mysterious unicorn

Unicorns are Mysterious.

Parenting a unicorn child can be so mysterious.  I don’t know why my daughter wanted my help getting dressed today, but I was happy to help her.  I don’t know why she agreed to the choices I suggested, then changed out of them afterwards.  And I don’t know why she was DETERMINED to wear her favorite dress TODAY, or why it was so upsetting that I then offered to help her find it AFTER I got myself dressed for work first.  I asked her to help ME get dressed, which she did at first but then went off to weep audibly.  I don’t know why just when I was ready to help her again she outbursted at me.

BUT!  Alas.  I went over to the “Unstuck Cards” and brought them to her, asking if there was anything I could do.  The first one said, “Hug,” and that’s what she did!!  (!!!)  Then she said, “I’m sorry for yelling at you,” as she sniffled up her tears.  Then we went and found the dress -to her DELIGHT- and we were back in business.  Some extra cuddles, zuberts and tickles for the road and we were good to go.

She EVEN let me brush her hair (a little bit) at the bus stop… and put a tiny pumpkin balloon in it, lol.

ClaraJane if you are reading this in the future, I hope you are not embarrassed.    You are a perfectly wondrous and healthy fabulous young lady.  I write, blog and live to forever learn how to be the best mom for you that you can have. We ALL have breakdowns sometimes.  Today’s is not a big deal.   I just forget the dynamics of breakdowns sometimes and every once in a while it’s good to really examine.

Moreover I’m celebrating our victory in turning our BREAKDOWN into a BREAKTHROUGH!  In this (one, first) case, our “Unstuck Cards” helped.  We’ll see what happens next time.

In the meantime please know two things:

  1.  I love you more than any words or forms of measurement could express.
  2.  You are welcome to yell at me all you need, My Love.  I’m you’re dang mom!

Love Always,

(Fart Noise) Mom

CJ got a lovely compliment from post office lady on her Twirly Girl dress. Nice opportunity to demo the twirly aspect, show the various fabrics, and provide the exact price paid for it. Good thing she was wearing her special dress today. How did she know?
