Homeschool Decompression Walk

Tuesday, May 11th 2020

Things came to a head in Le Homeschool today.  My daughter came unglued but I guess the good news is I didn’t.  (This time anyway.)  I terminated her school day, let her cry for a while and then we went out on a walk.

Nearby community garden on South Street in Somerville, complete with habitats for pollinators.

 

Here she is with her “heart” -a tulip petal- “on her sleeve.”

 

It was lovely and we should do this more often.

She *even* went back and finished a lot of her school work. Though that may have been motivated by wanting to earn back the recreational screen time I’d suspended. I guess we’ll never know.

AT RISE:  It’s afternoon of Carona Quarantine Day #59, and the Oberhauser Four are playing D&D (aka: Dungeons and Dragons).  Gavin is DM’ing (aka: He is the Dungeon Master).     It’s been a long day of homeschooling, financial management and well, marriage.  Mom is on her 3rd Dark n’ Stormy (aka: Alcoholic beverage).  Gavin is standing up and squirming on his feet.  There is a sudden odor in the air.

Mom:   Was that your fart?  [Pause.]  You need to poo.  The DM needs to poo.

Gavin:   NO.  [Keeps focus on the game.]

Mom:  Don’t hate me because I’m right.

Dad:  Hate her because she’s beautiful!

G-Dubs:  I hate her because she’s interrupting.

CJ:  Look at that cat!

CJ:   How do you spell “DUZ?”

MOM:  Um, as in… like, …

CJ:  Yeah, like, ‘DOES this red button destroy the world?’ or something like that.

MOM & GAVIN:  [Laugh.]

MOM:  Good one honey!

GAVIN:  We’re not laughing at you CJ!

MOM:  No, that was an epic use of a word in a sentence.  Good job honey.  It’s spelled D-O-E-S.

CJ:  Thanks.  [Goes back to typing.]

AT BEDTIME:   I start telling my kids a bed time story and they are konked out before I am even done.   I say kiss them goodnight and go tell my husband the news.

Me:  So this is as good as it gets!
