AT RISE:  The Oberhauser Four are eating extra peacefully tonight.  Even Mom is not talking, and is just enjoying the sights and sounds of Flamly Eating-In-Peace.

[Dishes gently tinkle along with the occasional slurping of clam chowder.]

Gavin:  I have a question.

Mom:  What is it honey?

Gavin:  Well you know how sometimes, if you do something really special and everything, they give you a “Key to the City?”  And it’s really big?

Mom:  Mm-hmm.  What about it honey?

Gavin: Well, does it actually unlock anything?  Or…?

Mom [assuming a misty-eyed air of facetious wisdom]:  Well, only the heart of your dreams, the potential of your future… and the pride of your parents.  [Looks at him gravely, tries not to laugh.]

Gavin:  Oh.  [Goes back to eating.]

Mom:  [Looks over at Dad with a look of shock that her B.S. answer worked.  Shrugs, goes back to eating.]

SCENE.

Note:  Later the kids start doing hand signals to each other, in a secret code only they understand. Mom still has no idea what they were talking about.

I love it. Such a typical Gavin question, such a typical Jennifer answer. What could be better/
